Tasty people parts

Postby Korinna » Mon Sep 24, 2012 10:25 pm

Okay as weird as the topics sounds it is exactly what I mean. The is my first post I hope no one gets mad but I am so confused on what to do. I bought a green cheek conure from a good breeder, he(unsexed but I call him/her a boy) is flighted we have had him for about a week now and he was recently weaned before we picked him up. But he came home wanted to come out the next day so we let him. He flew around landed on our shoulders preened out hair but the minute he sees peach flesh he goes and bites the crap out of it. I had noticed it a little bit when meeting the breeder and checking him out bit she said he's beaking only. He doesn't really beak anything but human flesh, there's no signs of aggression or fear just a "hi how you doing? Lemme have your blood" situation. I have been around beaky birds before and only a few times did they draw blood, this one has gotten my husband so bad he had to have a few stitches put in his right hand while trying to teach step up. We have tried several training techniques so far from ignoring him to tilting hands to shaking. I don't really know what's causing it and why only the skin. Any help or advice would be wonderful!

Your title made me laugh so sorry lol :)

How old is you little conure and how long have you had him?
Mine was a complete nightmare for many months and if I'm honest I thought it was never going to end and I hate to say it but I actually regretted getting him for a short time because nothing appeared to help. Anyway I continued ignoring him and eventually won through, if I knew he was biting for attention I would put him down and leave the room for a few seconds these days he never bites unless I'm not paying attention or accidently hurt him by catching a pin feather.

I don't know if its normal for such an extended nippy phase but I do believe it would have passed quicker if my boyfriend ignored Ollies bites too instead of screaming like a girl lol. For that reason I would say you both need to work together on this rather than both working at opposites. For the record my boyfriend still has problems with Ollie biting frequently, I think that says alot.

the screaming like a girl really seems to make mine draw blood too.when my penny :gcc: went through this with me i would give him a light push off my shoulder, his favorite place to be, and within 2 days he got it. he does still rarely give a light nip when he thinks i need reminding he's there but nowhere near what it was before and never hurts.
