lovebird always in happy hut.

Postby littlestever » Thu Oct 11, 2012 10:34 am

i have had my lovebird for about 4 months now and i just got her a happy hut. lately see goes inside it and just sits in it. when i go to open the cage to try to get her out of the hut she does this strange huffing noise and tries to bite me.. my bird isnt tame at all and gets scared when i try to pick her up. should i just leave her in the hut all day?

How old is your lovebird? She may be getting hormonal.

First off you need to get her to a good avian vet for a check up and tests because even if she is hormonal it is not normal for a bird to be sat in one place all day. Whilst she may feel safer in her hut she has been with you long enough to have gained some degree of confidence that her cage is a safe area for her to spend her time..

i got her from the pet store about 4 months ago and i was told she was around 4 months old. she was apparently tested from what i been told.. i did infact end up clipping my love birds wings because she would fly all over my room hysterically and go crazy. perhaps maby its because she is clipped?

Well yes she could be pissed off that she can no longer flies but I still think you need to see a vet, birds can get sick the day after they had a certain test in theory.

That said she is 8 months, I just googled it and apparently they reach sexual maturity at 8-12 months of age so it could well be hormone related. You may need to remove the hut from the cage.
I would still see a vet to be on the safe side, even hormonal birds dont usually spend all day in their nests until they are ready to start laying or incubating.
