Oe of my lorikeets I target attained with my finger for lots of his tricks.i taught him to step up and fly to me.id say for the times when he will easily step up then don't reward him but stepping up off the perch or from one hand to another when he doesn't like to if you can get him to with target training or he just steps up then reward him for that.

If you ever have trouble getting him back into the cage teach them to fly or jump to a perch when you say perch and eventually oh can hold him in front of his open cage in front of a perch and say perch and hell step on

Once you target train him and teach him tricks like spin wave and wings Than you can get other people to get your bird to perform tricks and eventually pet them he may never like other people but he could atleast learn to tolerate them.

Also Michael you said it could be used for something bad like poking if somebody is trying to poke your bird then if it was my bird I would never let them go near him again for doing something like that

I guess you'll never be visiting a vet again.

My vet doesn't poke my birds my vet is very friendly with my birds and lets me handle the birds my self while she is giving them a check up because they can get very nervous being in new environments after a 10 minute car ride
