I mainly have experience with smaller species but I know with them that as smart as they are that its better to hold off on too much training in the first few months but that said they mature alot faster. I'm certainly not saying you should wait a few years until your parrot matures but maybe 6 months is a little soon for any kind of formal training sessions. With young animals everything in new and distracting to them and sometimes you can achieve more by biding your time.
That said there is still stuff they need to learn, stepping up and recall being two of the most important as both are not just convenient for us as their owner but more importantly can get the birds out of any potentially dangerous situations they may accidently find themselves in.
Other important stuff to learn is that being in a carrier is a good thing, new objects are not going to harm them, being sociable is a rewarding exerience where as biting is not. New foods are good to try, its ok for you to examine feet, lift wings etc. All this can be done by making it fun, all training of course should be fun but this can be done informally, tricks and stuff although fun are more complex than general day to day learning and can wait a while.
You also mention your bird doesn't seem to have much personality, this could be many things, maybe your bird is still settling in, a month is a generous length of time for an adaptable young bird but some can and do take longer, especially if they haven't been in a stimulating environment previously.
Calm and collected may actually be your birds personality, they aren't all livewires, overly curious, very shy etc even within the same species, again though this may be to do with a lack of stimulation previously.
Also as the previous poster mentioned, personalities develop over time. I can almost guarentee you are not the same person as when you were a child.
Alernitively has your bird had a vet check yet? There is possibly an underlying cause which is causing him to be more withdrawn.
Hope this helps
