I have a white bellied Caique, he loves to get out off his cage and says out, he can shake his head yes, makes water running sound when he needs frsh water, will kiss me; but he thinks that playing is nibbling on my fingers and some times he draws blood. Then he hollers ouch and I guess he knows it was bad. How can I get him to learn not to bite me?

I have 2 caiques,If their a young bird [like what I call the terrible2s ]their monsters.Nip really hard and are the most stubborn little bird if they see something they want. They do turn into great birds when they get older [still stubborn though].What has worked for me [and they definitley have their moods].I take them out and put them on a play stand for awhile. Then when they seem tired have him come visit it you .Make a big deal then put him back before he nips you.My birds now,I can tell when they are in a cuddley mood [they purr] or they just want to do their own thing.Good luck :D

Thats about how old he is. But he knows he hurt me because he will whine and hold his paw up. Would clicker training work on him following the videos.

sounds like your Caique's previous owner, or someone who's handled him, has cried out "ouch" in the past when he's nipped or bitten them. and your caique, given the caique personality terri has described above, must have thought that was awfully cool and amusing to see a human get all excited and worked up and musical like that.

to undo the biting habit, one thing that will REALLY help you is to never react to the bite, with your voice, your facial expression, or your body language. this will teach him that there's no fun in biting. there are also severeal forum posts here about solving a biting habit. go to the search box in the top corner and type in biting and see what comes up. good luck, your caique does sound amusingly feisty!
