to find a treat your bird likes, first take a look at the food your giving him, and note the various kinds of seeds in his parrot food. write these diff types down, describe them, take pictures of each of them, whatever you need to do to remember which seed is which. then remove food from your birds cage for about two to three hours, so he gets hungry. then offer him a small amount (like a tablespoon) of his parrot food spread out on a flat dish, so each of the seeds are sitting flat and apart. OBSERVE which seeds he eats first, and the order he eats them. note the top three seeds. these top three seeds are his favorites.
when you know what his favorites are, you have to diligently REMOVE the favorite seeds from his parrot food, and use the favorites ONLY as treats for training.
in the long run, it would be a good idea to get your bird on a pellet diet. its healthier than the usual seedmix parrot food, and training is easier (because your bird will look forward to seeds as a treat during training.
You can buy what Michael uses in bulk and freeze it, defrosting only what you need each day. a lot of people on this forum do that, and its pretty economical, you can make a large bag last a really long time. read his ROudybush article in the blog section.
