Tattery

Postby WaterRaven » Fri Jan 18, 2013 8:53 pm

Hello everyone!

I am a new Quaker owner and was hoping for some advice. My lovely Tattery is about three years old and sadly his previous owner passed away. I believe he lived with a cockatiel and a cockatoo, but now it is him and I. His previous owner was male and I am female ;)

I have two dogs which mostly leave him alone and live alone in an apartment. He did live with dogs before. He stands up to them if they get too close to his cage ;)

We've been together for about two weeks now. Little by little I start to see more of his personality.

I was wondering if any of you had advice on games, exercises, or techniques for better bonding? He is shy, but affectionate when relaxed. He is still a bit flighty, but his wings are clipped.

Some problems I've encountered and would love to hear ideas and advice on:

- Tattery is cage aggressive. He does not like to leave it and bites when I ask him to step up. He does not bite outside of his cage and relaxes the moment he is out. He steps up just fine outside his cage. I ignore the bites and take him out anyway.

- He won't eat anything but his pretty bird pellets. I keep trying greens, nuts, fruits etc and he's not into trying anything. He was Walmart seed parrot food, thankfully he likes the pellets.

Well, that's it for now. Thank you in advance!

Cheers,
Sarah and Tatter
