Spix's macaws on loan

Postby Pajarita » Tue Nov 14, 2017 1:17 pm

Two articles about the same thing: the ten year loan of Spix's macaws to Singapore park. I don't approve of this. Asians, in general, don't seem to value animal life the same way I do. I am on emailing lists of animal petitions both domestic and international and the most terribly cruel cases are always from Asia - I just signed one where people stoned two female dogs with puppies and buried all 16 of them alive! And the one I did two days ago was of people throwing tar balls in fire to a baby elephant and the picture of the mother running in front and the poor baby trying to get to her engulfed in flames is one I will not forget very soon! I don't mean to offend anybody but this kind of thing is cultural and it takes generations and generations to change so sending these very rare and very fragile birds to them is not something I would do.

This is what I see all the time about Asian countries and why I feel it's wrong to send these vulnerable birds there. Look at the cages where the birds are kept - stacked like boxes from the floor up and without a single thing in them but a couple of perches, food (and I bet you a dollar against a nickel that it was nothing but cheap seeds] and water. No enrichment at all and caged all day long...
