Hehe, sometimes Melody will sprint across the floor and her little feet cant keep up with her momentum. She'll trip and catch herself with a couple spry bounces and will look to see if anyone else saw her do it. (she'll poof up, almost as if embarrased lol).

A sharp whistle from me and she'll come sprinting back tripping over her own feet to get back to my shoulder lol

Now I'm jealous! :)
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands.

Majestic as a Turkey maybe lol. But she does enjoy her mini camera shoots. Half the time im fighting to get the shot off before she sees the flash, once she does she's running as fast as she can at my hands to lick the camera.

Hi, We fell upon a Mulga by accident. The man who sold him to us said he was "like a red rump on steroids" as far as coloring. We'd never heard of either bird, but seeing him in a flight cage of red rumps, it was an easy choice!!!
I've never been more pleased with the coloration on a bird. And QUIET!!! Oh, my! It's been wonderful compared to the cacophonous noise on our front porch (enclosed). His only noise, if you want to call it that, is when he gets on his swing that has a bell attached, and swings it sideways to make bell ring. That's his "thing."
For all his verbal "meekness," he is a little bad-a__. We've tried putting him in a cage with another bird from time to time, and let's just say, he doesn't play well with others. He was not hand-fed, and we've not tried to stress him by handling him. He loves his birdman cave and his treats. Has NO use for toys. I believe he thinks he's sitting on a throne and all the other birds are his subjects. I love him dearly for his beauty and serenity and would love to have another. They are not common. We've had him now for about 10 years. Maybe I should start scouting another (not that he's going anywhere anytime soon!) Best Wishes Mulga people!

Hello,
I recently lost two of my budgies which leaves me with an older single male budgie and an adult red rumped parakeet. both birds are aviary birds and each is in a very large flight cage. they both seem a bit lost now but, as much as i miss the two budgie girls, i do like the lower volume of these two boys. I am considering adding a budgie and wonder if my red rumped would enjoy a cage mate as well. both birds spend a lot of time sitting near each other in their respected cages. my questions are:

should i try putting these two in together? both cages have dividers so i could separate them for awhile.

i've just come across a breeder not too far away who lists mulga parrots - had never heard of them but wondered if it would do well with the red-rumped. i don't want to add something that will be more aggressive. male or female - i have no nest box and no intention of breeding.

same breeder also has bourkes - which i love and miss the one i had years ago. would that be a better choice for the red rumped?

older bird or young bird? red rumped is about 6 yrs old
same for the budgie - he is an older bird but had no problem co-existing with the girls - he was a "free to good home" bird. he liked the girls and watched each one pass - he was a bit shell shocked after the second. the girls were older rescues and we did what we could for them.

i have a small house - the two cages take up one entire wall. i don't want to end up with more cages or having to take space away from the current birds.

would love to hear experiences and suggestions.
i'm not a novice owner so i have an idea of what i might be getting myself into - have done bird rescue and have had a house full at times - it's been years and the smaller, quieter birds are my favorites. i also have dogs and a somewhat busy schedule even working from home so i enjoy the aviary birds.

thanks!
