Personally, I would look for an adoption/rehome (so many in CL!) and get two budgie hens for the males (don't get just one because three is a terrible number for budgies, the males will end up fighting for the only hen) and a GCC (again, soooooo many in CL) for the red-rumped. But a mulga would do well with the red-rumped too IF (and that is the operative word here) they like each other and bond so they can live in the same cage which is NOT a given with any bird.

rescue was my first choice but there is nothing available in my area. i really can't see driving 6 hrs to rescue a budgie - i am keeping my eyes open though - sometimes you can find one locally that the family has gotten tired of. rr are much harder to come by around here. there is a pair on petfinder but not in a close state. and i only want one. i only have the one male budgie - was thinking of adding a younger male. really not keen on the hens. after doing some reading i think if i get anything to keep the rr company it would be another rr or a bourkes. when the time is right, the right birds will show up - right now the budgie is chirping happil to himself in the mirror. i would consider a pair of bourkes to go with the rr. or maybe he is happy by himself after all this time alone. so hard sometimes to know what to do to keep everyone happy.

Look in Craig's list, there are always budgies on it.
