Well, if he is already growling at you at such a young age (he is a teenager), you do have a problem in your hands (the only bird that ever growled at me was a male ekkie -he got better and stopped attacking me but he never really bonded with me). Getting a female ekkie as a companion for a male is more likely to backfire on you than work. This is because, in the wild, male ekkies do not flock with female ekkies, the males flock with the males and the females with the females. They could bond, but, if they do, she will most likely demand all his attention and you will have two hormonal birds in your hands (their breeding season is incredibly long and the males feed the females for up to 11 months of the year -but, usually, for about 9 months).
Personally, I think you would be better off establishing a better relationship with him. It will take time and it will take work but you have more chances of success than getting him a female.
