I think you may have gotten it Micheal. ;)
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands.

Definitely not a Poi.

I'm kind of iffy about this guess due to the plumage not being a complete match but just the shape of the head and body and beak remind me most of a Kea.

Whoah, thank you all! Not a jardine.
Some of them look like matches, I will look at them more later on.

Looking at the b/w picture again,
~the feathers have lots of different shades and dark and light areas, so I think it was likely multicolored
~the head and breast appears to be one and the same color except around the beak, and
~the beak seems too light to have been black/ dark gray or red

The picture is from the 1920's, I don't think it was a prop because the feet look as if they're grabbing on to her finger... but could be. The feathers might have been cut off for aesthetic (?) reasons, but I have no idea.

Thanks again, much appreciated!
When I first saw the picture I thought it was a pigeon :P

How anyone could think that it is an eclectus, I have no idea... ekkies are 2-3x that size, the eyes are all wrong, the beak is all wrong, the feathers are all wrong...

Looks like a type of conure, hard to tell with it being in black and white. Maybe a blue-capped/headed conure?
