Are all lovebirds very loud?

Postby Strawfrawg » Fri Mar 15, 2013 11:00 am

My breeder says my baby Sennie has been fixated on the baby lovebirds in the nursery near him. He always wants to go over and play. I'm wondering if maybe I should get him a buddy when I bring him home...one of the lovebirds he is so fond of. My concern about lovebirds is the noise. Every one I've encountered seems to be pretty shrill. Are all lovebirds very loud? If the household is quiet, could a lovebird be raised to be a little less noisy?

I should say that I know the two birds would have to be kept apart without close supervision. But it sounds like my little guy reeeeeally likes those birds and I'd be happy to have a playmate come home with him.

Lovies arent know as LOUD birds, but of course you know that all birds make some noise. They are from my experience chirpie birds with a fairly high pitch, but not chronic noisy. I think that if the sennie (& congrats)! is you first avian companion, you might want to settle into that situation for a few months, become comfy with your new baby and then perhaps get em a buddie such as a lovie..On the other hand, if you ARE an experience birdie person then yup, bring 2 home :senegal: :lovebird: :) I would luv to see some pics soon.... :D

I'm not an expert but what I've read is that sennie's are fine as only birds and a Sennie owner shouldn't get another bird unless the owner wants another bird, don't do it for the Sennie. If you're finding the lovies to be loud then I would suggest you pay attention to that - we all have our own personal response to different bird sounds and what's not a problem for one person may be intolerable for another
