Parrot Profile: Bourke's

Yo
I heard only a little bit about the Bourke's parakeet, the research on them seems the same all around. I would like some of you owners of these birds to put down all you know about keeping these little guys just so we have a center of information on Bourke's in this forum, in case anyone would like to learn about them and not have to look in too many different places

:budgie: - pretend its pink :D

I believe Friend2Parrots has a pretty Bourke's. It's a Grass Parakeet, much like my Mulga. I remember while doing research that the two are quite similar, as they were often involved with the same journal being written by the same person. lol.

They quite a bit smaller than a mulga. The Red Rump parakeet however is very similar to your Mulga. They have a little Bourke at the aviary down the road. He's with a Princess parakeet. They about the size of a starling but with a longer tail... really pretty colours. There's is the non Rosa version so purples, browns and blues. Really pretty little guy, very tempted I have to say as they were both for sale but with the new baby tiel we just can' t take on anymore birds at the moment.

They love to fly everywhere and they quick little things but at others they sit very still like a statue. :-)

I own quite a few bourkes. They are quiet and peaceful most of the day but come to life at dawn and dusk. They come in tons of mutations and are friendly and easy to breed. Flight cages or aviaries suit the best.
