poor guy is always so stressed when i tried to harness train. whenever i train him with anything else like tricks or recall, he is so eager to train and loves it.
I started by getting our ringneck to put his head through the harness by holding the bit that goes around his body in a loop that's bigger than the bit his head goes through (i hope that makes sense). I figured that getting him used to the idea is more important than the having him put his head through the right part, and he adapted easily to putting his head through the correct strap when he was directed that way. It also the advantage that if the bird gets too worried you can let the loop go or remove it easily and safely.
The most sensible advice I have read on aviator harnesses is to buy one that's too big for your bird for the initial training. I think I will be doing that when we get another irn.
