poor guy is always so stressed when i tried to harness train. whenever i train him with anything else like tricks or recall, he is so eager to train and loves it. :(

I started by getting our ringneck to put his head through the harness by holding the bit that goes around his body in a loop that's bigger than the bit his head goes through (i hope that makes sense). I figured that getting him used to the idea is more important than the having him put his head through the right part, and he adapted easily to putting his head through the correct strap when he was directed that way. It also the advantage that if the bird gets too worried you can let the loop go or remove it easily and safely.
The most sensible advice I have read on aviator harnesses is to buy one that's too big for your bird for the initial training. I think I will be doing that when we get another irn.

I practiced with Ollie by making a loop too and gradually decreasing the size until it was similar to the collar. That said though the parrot university will exchange harnesses free of charge. They now do petite and small sizes with slightly larger collars but you have to request them as they still have old stock left. Alternatively they make custom sized harnesses but again you will need to request it.

i have never tried to harnes train my IRN because i have seen that micheal uses both hands to put the harnes on kili and Trueman, plus i think a harness line would potentially get caught in my wheelchair.

I also live in the contryside so there are lots of birds of pray here that would try and kil her and shes trified of crows plus my neibours have cats.

However i do give her natural light by putting her outside in her cage on sunny days.

attempt 2 with harness training.... complete failure lol.

wanted to get him harness trained before i headed out to cape cod for a week but i failed so he will not be able to come along (no space in car for an appropriate cage and other reasons). will try again when i come back. on a side note this is the first long period i will be away from mango... i am very very scared he will go insane with not being able to come out of cage and might forget/hate me once i come back. i dont want him to forget the only person he loves !!!(me).
