But have thought in later years of getting a slightly bigger parrot in hopes of being able to more safetly take it out and about with me. I originally wanted a pionus but have become more interested in a slightly bigger and longer lived bird.
I'm really interested in Greater Vasas as they seem to have great temperments, look really gothic and from what I gather, are fairly quiet. There aren't many Vasas where I live, so I then looked at other parrots which interested me, the TImnehs, cuz they're great talkers but aren't as prone to screaming and phobias as Congos are. I also was interested in Galahs as they're meant to be quieter than any other type of cockatoo while also having quite a cuddly disposition.
Was wondering if anyone with any of these birds could tell me what it is like to live with them and whether my beliefs about them are true.
I'm looking for a biggish bird with a fair life span (40 years) and a fairly friendly disposition. I also would like the bird to be quiet in the way that Senegals are quiet- They only make noise for the morning, evening and when they're unhappy or want something, I don't really want a bird that makes noise continuously/ just for the hell of it- (e.g.- I'm not keen on keeping Budgies because although their voices are quiet, they don't seem to stop chattering) I'd rather have something that for 5 minutes 5 times a day screamed, rather than something which chattered on all day long...
Anyone any ideas?
