Mango doing some TRICKS/FLIGHT recall for you guys!!

I have been slacking on teaching him any tricks because of harness training (which has been going horrible). so i figure i do a session this morning. This is where he is at. He will do wave and turn around pretty good . After session i did the turn around motion away from him and he still did it. sometimes he does wave and turn around without making any motion at all . Just saying it works. But this is still not 100% so i still do the motion.

Also i cut the flight recall on camera short because its just very hard to hold the camera and everything. 1 thing i am having trouble with is him returning to perch by himself. He never does it. I have to just take him very close to perch and let him jump to it. So any ideas how to improve that would be greatly appreciated(or any other advice on anything on the video). The little perch he is on i made from pvc with some vet wrap on top for grip.

thanks in advance.

Nicely done! I'm always so happy to see people training their birds. :D

As for getting Mango to return to the perch on his own, you could hold him very slightly farther and farther away until he is flying back to it instead of jumping onto it. You could also make another perch, and target him from one perch to the other, gradually increasing the distance until he is flying back and forth from perch to perch.

Also, the perch seems to jiggle a bit when he hops onto it. He may feel unsafe flying to it. Maybe try putting something heavy on the base so it won't tip when he hops onto it?

Very nice Nir! Mango is very good, and you've taught him well.

You seem to be doing great with Mango, and I am glad you stayed around on the forums =)!

What you can try is to start by targeting him to the perch, so when you've done a flight recall and he is on your hand, use your other hand and your targeting stick to target him back to the perch. Start by holding him very close to the perch so he can step over, and gradually over a few days increase the distance. Then start replacing it with the "Perch"-command, and like you did with turn around, remove the targeting stick gradually and instead point or tap where you want him to fly.

I used this with Stitch, but I say "Here" rather than perch, and he will fly to anything I point at :)!

PS. These kind of posts are better put in the Parrot Tales section =) rather than Species ^^, not that I mind, but its easier to find them if they are in the right section DS.
