At the same time, my pair of cockatiels hatched some chicks and they had aged to the point where I was handfeeding them. Things have progressed to the point that now, the babies are coming out of their cage learning how to fly! It's great fun watching them, but today one of them happened to land on the same perch that Samson was on. Uh oh... I couldn't get to them fast enough. I saw Samson moving towards my baby with his beak wide open and my heart dropped - I knew it would happen before I could do anything about it. I was a step away when it happened....
He fed the baby. Yes - my big, rough, tough, aggressive Senegal recognized a baby of a totally different species and determined to take care of it. <3 Isn't that the sweetest thing you've ever heard? Rest assured, I still scooped the baby up and away the moment I was in reach, and yes, I praised both of them for using their good manners, but it was certainly a heart stopping moment for me! I'll be more wary of that happening again in the future!
Anyway, I just thought I'd share!
