baby cockatiel help

Hi everyone,

I have a baby cockatiel at about 18 days old i would say; and it screechesall the time, even after ive fed it until the crop is full but not over fed. Im worried, is it because im feeding the baby when it screeches at me?

Im just worried.

18 days old? My dear, you took a HUGE risk buying this bird! Not only because the bird is way too young to be sold but also because it couldn't have come from a good breeder (no good breeder would sell such a young bird to anybody) as well as the fact that you don't seem to have any experience whatsoever hand-raising birds.

Are you using a thermometer every time you feed?
Are you sterilizing everything every time you feed?
Are you feeding at night?
Do you make sure his crop is completely empty once a day?
Are you checking its weight daily exactly at the same time to make sure he is gaining steadily?
Is he been kept in an incubator or a brooding box in the dark so his vision can develop correctly?
Has he been seen by an Avian Vet?

Baby birds don't scream unless they are hungry, scared or uncomfortable in some way (they are like human babies) so if he screams all the time there is something wrong...

Firstly I agree with Parajita... why do you have a baby that young?! Or have we misunderstood and you are a breeder?

Are you sure its screaming when you're feeding? They do make a little squeaky noise as they take the food.

PLEASE follow ALL Parajita's advice above and also check the temp of the food, what seems warm to you could be burning hot to them. It could be its screaming because its too hot!
