Hey! I'm 14 and I have a GCC and a parrotlet (who is untamed). Peanut was my first bird, and I have to say she's amazing. Currently she's on my shoulder preening. GCC's *are* quieter than other conures- those sun conures at petsmart are really loud compared to Peanut. She talks and mutters and gets along with almost everybody (brother excluded).

I would go with a green cheek though. The parrotlet we may give back to the breeder- I'm worried that she might start plucking and that she'll never get used to us. I know parrotlets are cute (so small! <3 ) but I've heard an owner call them 4-ounce pit bulls. They can get really mean and territorial sometimes.

I don't know who said it, but Linnies (Lineolated Parakeets) are a bit rare but are very sweet. We're planning on getting a linnie instead of the plet- the plet will go back to her former owner (don't worry, he said he would take her back). Anyways, linnies are a little smaller than a GCC, but they're very social and can talk (cute video of one talking- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3rmvPZBOFk8 ).

So... that's all I have to say. xD Good luck with your new bird, me and my mom are the 'bird side' of the family too. ;) (My dad likes Peanut and my brother doesn't care much.)

I know many parrotlet owners, most if not all, are single birds. They can be cage aggressive and don't always bond when offered a cage mate. Singles don't pluck more. I find when they are given the proper toys, taught to play on their own, handled daily and kept on a consistent schedule they are wonderful little pets.
