Female or Male Senegal Parrot?

Postby josiemv » Wed Jul 31, 2013 12:52 pm

Hey everyone! I am having trouble deciding whether a female or male senegal is best for me! I have researched a lot but I cannot seem to find any helpful answers. I am a girl.. and I heard that male senegals bond to their female owners or that females bond stronger to their male owners.

What I would like to know is if this gender difference can affect the bonding or relationship with me. Is there one that bonds stronger? should I get a male since I am a girl? or will the female bond equally to me? I have heard females are moodier and males are nippier, everyone has different experiences. I would like to know their personality differences and if getting my gender even makes a difference to which sex of bird I get. I would like to hear various opinions and facts and I really appreciate everyones help! thank you for your time in advance!!!

Well mango is a male that seems to love males more. So take that for what' it's worth.

he is a sweatheart to me. never bites, a little bratty at times but doesnt bite me. however to others he was very social before but right now he just tolerates everyone. he wont let anyone get near him and if a girl walks into my room he will fly away. So i am working on that. but with me he is awesome.

keep in mind in my apt i had 2 roomates who always played with him since i got him. so he saw a lot of males in the begining. then i also took him home to my family house where he played with all the kids all the time. so he was being socialized ALOT. but then i moved back home for a few months (Still home) and he loved my sister but my sister didnt give him any attention when he went to her so after that day he just doesnt like girls as much. and slowly he just started becoming a 1 person bird. but not 1 day has gone where he wasnt surrounded by kids/ males females/adults. so he has been socialized ALOT. but he is still pretty much a 1 person bird now. so you just gotta accept the fact that your sennie MIGht become a 1 person bird.

also i think if you are spending most of the times with your bird, he will end up liking you regardless. so i dont think it matters if its a male or female as long as you spend a lot of time with him.

also you can go to my page where i posted a lot more videos of him to get a general idea of how he is.

also keep in mind, he is young so he has not gone through maturity yet (terrible 2's).
