Bourke's Parakeets?

Postby LadySaphine » Sat Aug 17, 2013 1:47 pm

We visited a pet shop yesterday, and my mom has been thinking about getting another parrot, possibly a pair of Bourke's Parakeets.

Anybody here have experience with these guys? Thanks! :)

Yes, I had a pair years ago. They are lovely birds and very easy to care for because they are aviary ones, not really interactive so you need a pair and a huge flight cage.

Thanks, this is pretty much what I've heard about them. We're also looking into Lineolated Parakeets. We don't have an aviary, but we do have a rather large cage that we used to house our sugar gliders in (It's about 3 ft tall without the stand, by 2 feet, I think, by 3 1/2 or so. These are rough measurements I did kinda quickly. It's also sterilized, I made sure of that). It would probably be enough for one, I would think.

I'm kinda wishy-washy on getting one- at one point, I would love to have some quiet birds that allow me to put them on my shoulder, but then I feel I might not have the right cage, and that I might neglect them or something like that. I feel I don't have enough information on these guys, and I've been researching for about a week now. :?

Anybody have tips on Lineolated Parakeets?

I don't know what the sugar glider cage is made of but, usually, you can't use them for parrots.

Never had linnies so I can't help you with them but all small species do great in a large flight cage and with a mate.
