Galah info please?

Postby Raa » Thu Sep 26, 2013 4:31 pm

So, i'm thinking of a Galah as my next bird. I have kept a few different parrots before (IRN and lorikeets) and have a friend with Galahs and Toos (how I fell in love) so i'm aware of the noise and time needed.

I plan on flight recall training, my last bird was unable to fly so taking her outside wasn't an issue even fully flighted (traumatic rescue case), and that was amazing.

Krystall (IRN) was never locked in her cage, she had a massive cage 1m x 1m x 1.8m cage that was always open during the day. And I plan on doing the same with the new bird.

This is the cage i'm looking at:

Any suggestions on toys, or usefull links would be apreciated.

From the picture it looks like they recommend it for lovebirds and parrotlets. Probably means you need something bigger.

I think they suggest that as an aviary for a flock. The dimentions are 123cm x 90cm x 183cm. Its the same size as a friend has for her cockatoo, and it woiuld only realy be a bed cage anyway...

That is actually a reasonable sized cage for a Galah. Mine is only slightly larger. As long as you provide plenty of stimulation in there, and let him/her out often, it should be fine.

Most of the toys I make myself - cheaper and easier that way, as they go through them at a pace. Either by destruction or boredom. Best of luck, they are great birds, although they can be noisy!
