Mini macaw or cape parrot? Sound difference...

Postby Poipoipoi » Fri Oct 18, 2013 4:17 am

Hi, sorry for the typical, very boring question...

From the neighbours' point of view, which is likely to be less annoying - a cape parrot or a mini macaw of the same sort of size? Obviously i dont mind the sound (why get a bird if i did!). iS there a marked difference in noise level between the two?

Thanks

i have 0 experience with either birds but from what i read, the mini macaw is a loud bird so regardless of which sound you think is more annoying to your neighbors, i am pretty sure that they will find the sound thats much louder to be a bigger annoyance. capes although can be loud are not as loud as a mini macaw as far as i know.

Thanks for your comment! Would be good to do a parrot decibel chart!

Hello,
we have a yellow collared macaw....he is indeed mini.I think it varies alot on yhe birds enviroment and level of stimulation. From my perspective, our little guy is almost silent. He will give his 2cents worth when he wants something, but I would be surprised if anyone outside of our home would even know he was here.

Capes and mini macaws can both be loud. They may be quiet compared to a cockatoo or a large macaw, but that doesn't make them quite by conventional standards. My Cape is outside throwing a screaming fit right now and I hear him from inside. I can hear him from down the block if I go out. But you can't even begin to compare a Cape and a mini-macaw behaviorally or what they are like as pets so you have a lot more to think about than just noise.
