Biting baby senegal

Postby Jan+Coco+Nippa » Wed Oct 30, 2013 8:35 pm

I'm new to the forum so please forgive me if this is in the wrong place!
My senegal is just 17wks and has been with us for two days, he is tame and wants to be near us whenever out of his cage. He lands on our heads but when we try to get him to step up he bites, although if he wants tickles or kisses he will allow us too, he just seems to prefer to stay perched on our heads which i want to break due to me having two young children aged 12 & 9 and the fact that he nibbles at our foreheads. So i could do with some advice on how to break him/her of these habits, the biting is more important first though.
Thanks in advance :D

At such a young age he is "beaking" which is exactly like a toddler teething; this is a bird's way to explore and is not a "bad" behavior. If you want to start training your baby sennie to step-up onto the hand, watch Michael's videos on how to get your parrot to step-up and not be afraid of your hands... a good start is rubbing the beak with a light scratching. Also keep in mind that your sennie is adjusting to a new home environment, so give your sennie time to get settled in.
