I absolutely agree: unless you know exactly what you are doing and have apprenticed for a couple of breeding seasons under an experienced breeder, nobody should even attempt breeding or handfeeding. Many years ago, when we did not have internet or even books to teach us, we (canary breeders) used to get a mentor and learn first hand how to do things by looking, practicing, asking a million questions and taking notes - unfortunately, nowadays, people without any knowledge or personal experience go to the internet, read a couple of pages and think they know enough to breed. I started helping my cousin's grandfather during breeding season when I was 8 years old, got my first purebred Hartz Roller of champion lines as a gift for my 13th birthday and had canaries ever since but I never bred them until many years later when I found a new mentor (his name was Big Jim) in USA.
