Thank you for your advice! I really do appreciate it! I want nothing more than to take birds in, but we currently live in a condo and I don't want to take much attention away from my rescued Senegal.

I just got a Sun Conure. He is not near as loud as I expected, actually quite quiet comparatively. If you have one bird I personally do not think that it would be a bad idea as long as he gets and hour of time with you or someone every day.

Good luck and keep us updated!

Blessings,

LOL- If you 'just' got a sun conure, you still haven't experienced their loud and often screams. Wait a bit and then see if yours is quiet -and, if it is, take it to an avian vet because there is no such thing as a both quiet and healthy/happy sunnie.

I am sorry I was not more accurate, by just I mean I have had him for a little over a month, just not as long as I am sure most of you have had your birds. Thank you for the correction though, and I really am sorry I was not more accurate.

Yes, I have experienced some of his screams, but they are mostly when his companion, a green cheek conure, is out of his sight. Their screams can be loud but he seems to rather not use his vocal chords in such a harsh way unless he has reason. My green cheek is much quieter than him, I would say, but for such a good opportunity I would not pass it up. I would say that conures seem to be quieter among companions. I would though ask if you could have a trial period as it does not hurt to ask and the worst thing that could happen is they say no. I also would warn you that your bird could possibly injure the conure, so be careful when they first meet.

Hope this helps :)

Just got a sun myself a month ago from a local breeder and like you, I haven't experienced the dreaded screaming except in the morning when I come down for breakfast (my husband has already uncovered the cage) and one or two screeches if he's unhappy about something. Very bright and energetic. Already talking a bit. "What" for sure and "What Doin" maybe. Lots of mumblings. 4 months oid and hand fed, so really tame, but a bit nippy. I grab his beak if it hurts just so he knows something's not right. He stops right away. Anyway, we're having a ball with toys, food, finding just the right cage, play stand, etc. He hates returning to his too small cage which he only does at night and if I have to run an errand. I wait until I see that he's sleepy and coerce him with a walnut....his very favorite food. So far he's a riot and we're having big fun. I take him to the vet tomorrow just for check-up and maybe toenail clip. :sun:

Babies don't need nail clipping so, please, reconsider. And, actually, not even adults need them as long as you don't feed too much protein or use the wrong perches for them - I never clip my birds nails and I have from tiny finches to cockatoos.
