Hey there!
My boyfriend and I bought an handfed budgie recently. It's his first pet bird, but I've had birds before, including a very afectionate female budgie and a blue-crowned I taught a bunch of Kili's tricks to.
I'm getting a bit worried, though... the female budgie I had several years ago wasn't even hadfed, but she was born in my house and I handled her from very early on. She soon grew afectionate towards me, especially when she weaned and I brought her in the house(as opposed to letting her stay with the breeders). She had full wings and yet always followed me around and played with me.
This one though... hand-fed and with clipped flight feathers. He's pretty good with being handled, even has the "up" command down well after some millet-clicker training. But he's not showing any signs of wanting to be with either of us. At the first opportunity he goes elsewhere - and not out of fear, it's more just like he has no reason to stay near us. The breeder is pretty good in general, with many very friendly birds in his store, and this budgie IS easy to handle, so I don't think this has to do with the way he was bred.
Oh, we've had him for a little over a week now. I know it's early, but if I need to start changing the way i interact with him, might as well start early on. Thanks!
