Should I get an IRN in an apartment?

Postby MishMash_80 » Wed Mar 12, 2014 5:44 am

Hi All, After not having a bird for many years I have my heart set on an IRN but I currently live in an apartment.... I have heard they can be quite noisy do any of you keep an IRN in an apartment? Can they be on the quieter side if living in a quiet environment with plenty of toys etc? I work during the day but am a homebody most of the time.... I think they are just gorgeous but worry about my neighbours any thoughts would be very much appreciated or even suggestions on a more appropriate feathered friend I previously owned a sun conure and was looking for something a little larger please help I so badly want to add to my family!

I don't have I or ARNs but, for what I have read, they are noisy. Personally, for a person who stays home all day long, lives in an apartment and wants a bird bigger than an aratinga, I would go with an African gray. There are people who say they can be loud non-stop talkers but I've had 6 and none of them was noisy at all... they did/do talk, laugh, whistle, beep and make all kinds of funny noises but not really that loud.

Pionus are supposed to be one of the quietest bird species around, they're almost twice the size of a sun conure. The blue headed pionus are said to be the most engaging and the max are the calmest, that said I've never had a pionus so I'd look them up first.

Senegals are basically the same size as a sun coure but do generally make great apartment pets.
