Smoker voice

Postby GreenWing » Sun Apr 27, 2014 3:22 am

One thing that is hilarious about Chance's "voice" is that she sounds like a heavy smoker when she talks. Do all Greys sound like heavy smokers when they talk? It is nothing like a Sennie's cute squeaky voice.

No, they don't. Grays pick up their owners voices so, if she sounds like a smoker it's because she lived with one.

Now this is interesting, and makes sense! She talks in a smoker voice but is also using a cute squeak voice that I do.

Thanks, Pajarita

Sophie (CAG) speaks in two different voices, a woman's one and a man's. Freddy, my LSC, speaks in three voices, a young female's, an old, old woman's and a middle age female. He starts by saying in the young female's voice "You forgot to unlock the back door. Unlock the door! THE DOOR!!!" and then goes on to speak on the old, old woman's voice: "You forgot your daughter. You are always forgetting your daughter.. mumbling mumbling." But he also says "Hello! How u doing?" "Byebye!" and "What you doing?" as well as "Crackers!" and "Apple?" in the middle age voice. So I think his first home was with three generations of women, the grandmother, the mother and the young daughter who must have gone out at night and, quite often, found the door locked when she came back -LOL

Well, Freddy is quite exceptional, he is:
- very outgoing: lifts his leg as if he was waiving and goes HELLO!!!! HI, HOW U DOING?! to every single person he sees -even the ones on the street he doesn't know from Adam to the point that I've had neighbors knocking on my door so they can say Hello to him up close -even a policeman who wanted one 'just like him' for his kids (a notion I very quickly nixed by showing him the size of his beak) - The bird never met a human he doesn't like.

- incredibly affectionate: me: "Freddy, give me a kiss' - Freddy leaning over, puts the top of his beak against my lips and goes MUUUUUUAAAA, leans back to look at me and I go: "I LOVE YOU!' and he goes "AHHAAAAA!" and immediately leans over to give me another kiss for which he expects the same reaction, of course, and he can do this forever, if you let him - he also climbs on your arm and leaning his entire body against your chest and tucking his head under your chin, he goes: 'papapapapapapapapapapapa' or clicks his beak -a sign of utter contentment in toos (I do the papapapapa with him and click my teeth together at the same rhythm he does it)

- completely non-aggressive: I can do anything with that bird and he will not even get testy

- funny, funny, funny and not only because of the things he says but also because of his antics - he is the biggest show-off and ham and, anything that makes you laugh, praise him or just look at him, he will do for hours -LOL- I am planning on taking him to the school where I used to work (had to quit because of my health) to show him to the kids when they have their annual picnic in June (I had been telling them stories of my birds and showing them pictures) because I know he will enjoy their attention just as much as the kids will enjoy seeing his antics.

Omg, Freddie sounds sooooooo cute, I wanna cuddle him

Chance is affectionate but it is on HER terms. She likes her space. But she does say, "Gimme a kiss?" and then makes a kiss sound. She also says "I love you" and "love you, girl" and sometimes calls me "baby." :)

Grays are not as cuddly as toos but it sounds as if she had a loving owner in the past and that makes a huge difference in them.

Freddie is a wonderful bird but he was, and still is up to a point, a BIG TIME screamer (that's why he was given up). This bird screamed all day long and, sometimes, even at night, for months and months and months when he first came with the most godawful LOUD screams. First I had to quarantine him for two months and then I had to get him used to the birdroom and, as he had never lived with another bird, it took a couple of months of gradually increasing the length of time he spent in there, first with me and then by himself until I could leave him there 24/7 - and then he still screamed for another two months or so although they started decreasing in frequency. Nowadays, he makes evening calls but, sometimes, he would still scream during the day - only it's just a few screams and then he shuts up.

He is actually one of the birds I have that I feel guilty about keeping because, in truth, he didn't need me to take him in, he could have been somebody's pet with no problem as long as he had an owner that did not work outside the house and kept him out of a cage (he screams all the time when he is in one) but his owners were in a bad situation (lost their home and business because she got cancer and he had a heart attack while she was getting treatment so neither could work for months and months) and did not want to give him to anybody else.
