Yes, lovies are bitey but they do fine as aviary birds if they have a large flight cage, good care and a mate. Ringnecks tend to revert very quickly to their wild ways if they are not handled every day and in the right way so, in my personal opinion, they are not birds for a beginner who doesn't yet know how good a birdkeeper he/she will turn out to be. Everybody is enthused and has great intentions as well as admiration and possibly love for the birds but it's the day in and day out, week after week, month after month, year after year of keeping the commitment that determines whether we are bird people or not.

They were rare here in the States until a few years ago and now you find them all over.

Volunteering at a shelter not only will show you the different species but also the personalities in the individual birds. You will probably claim one of them.

My little flock of cockatiels consists of individuals with different back rounds. They also have their own personalities.

The one I am really amazed at is Maggie who was a 4 year old breeder bird that lost her mate.
She lived on seed and water and really had no human contact. She is a true eating machine. She watches me bring the plate and is the first one in it. She is adventurous and would have been cuddly if she had a different start. She is trying to bond with me even though the only time I can touch her is when I put a new plate in.
