Pros and cons of these birds?

Postby LittleMissPetPerson » Wed Jun 18, 2014 10:30 pm

Ok I've narrowed it down a little bit!
Here's what I'm thinking now
Linnie :amazon2:
Lovebird
Parrotlet
Cockatiel

And maybe an English budgie but I heard they're not commonly hand raised. Also I want to get a bird from a local shelter so I'm open to other species.

So what are the pros and cons of these birds?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Well, it depends on what you expect out of the bird. Linnies are hard to tame, lovies are very bitey and plets are hard to keep happy (most of them end up plucking when they are kept by themselves) so these three species do much, much better in an aviary with others of their own species than by themselves. Tiels, on the other hand are lovely birds because, although they do much better when in bonded pairs and should always be kept that way, they still love their humans and would gladly interact with them.

English Budgies are bigger and calmer than the Australian Budgie and they do hand-raise them, it depends on the breeder.

I think the best best birds for you would be a Budgie or a Cockateil.
I have had both and know they are easy to keep.

Should you choose to go with a Cockatiel, do yourself a favor and get an air purifier that uses a good quality Hepa filter, as they are dust birds.

I had a very tame budgie that was not hand raised. It took some work but she was one of the easiest birds ive ever tamed.she wasnt cuddly but I dont think budgies are cuddly birds anyway.
