i will be getting a girl too , they are mellower then most males , only egg laying is a problem , but it can be prevented ...
if i would get an eclectus , i think i would get a male , i heard that with ekkies males are much easier
but i do love the females colors

Other than the need for additional calcium why would egg laying be such a problem that one would need to stop it?

i actually dont think its a problem
if you take the egg away it is a problem , its best to replace the eggs by dummy eggs ,
i had a friend whose parrot died from egg laying
but i dont really mind it , my tiel used to lay eggs as well

And blessed art thou amongst all females, Wolf! (you forgot your lady, Pam) LOL

I had two Nandays, granted that they were both older, that they lived cage-free in my birdroom and that both had companions but they were quietest birds I've had - equal only to the Jardine, I think.

A warm welcome to the forums :), glad to have you with us.

I have a question, I hope you dont mind:

How long are you staying in Brazil, and what do you do if you move back (to where you moved from, you didnt say)? Can you move a parrot with you from Brazil to say the US without issues?
If not, maybe a parrot isnt the best option for you as a pet, as they have very long lifespans and it wouldnt be fair to rehome a parrot because you havnt thought through a potential move.
