I don't have or ever have had one (I had blue and gold and blue throated in the large macaws and noble and Hahn's in the minis) but all parrots are nippy, some species more than others and some more dangerous than others for the simple reason that they are larger so the damage is worse. For what I have read and have been told, scarlets do tend to be more high-strung than other species of macaws and they do like to pinch hard when they nip. But all large species require prior experience to be handled correctly because you can learn as you go with a GCC or a tiel but you can't do it with a bird that can disfigure you in an instant if you miscalculate a movement or misread its body language.
