Why can't I find a rock pebbler owner?

Postby LJ4RockPebbler » Wed Nov 05, 2014 12:21 pm

Any reason why these Rock Pebbler/Regent Parrots aren't more popular than they are? I wrote something on the forum looking for a rock pebbler owner and did not receive one response. My girl is supersweet, talks, doesn't bite, so smart when it comes to click training, doesn't get attached to just one person etc etc etc. You can't seem to find much information online about the in's and out's of these birds which frustrates me cause the bird will sometimes do certain things that I think only another Regent parrot owner might understand and I would love to share stories. The bird is very skiddish but again, an absolute sweetheart. I've asked about the birds in more than this forum and nothing. Just curious. Hope to hear from you soon....thanks

They aren't widely available or popular. I've only ever seen one. Nice bird but I guess just not what people think of as a typical parrot.

They are considered aviary birds and most people in bird forums have companion birds.

Its a bit of a long shot but if you can find a few breeders maybe you could ask if theres anyone they could put you in touch with who keeps them indoors? I say its a long shot because most breeders dont keep the details of the people they sell birds to but it might be worth a try because ollies breeder does.

This bird cannot be more of a companion to both my wife and I. She'll want to spend her whole day on either one of our shoulders cuddling up to us and constantly looking for kisses. If we put her down for a second, she freaks out a little and just wants to be held. I understand that she's an aviary bird but more of a companion, u can't find. I don't get it and maybe never will. Oh well :/

If I remember correctly, your bird is a baby. Babies of all species are mild and needy of affection (even the species that are territorial) but they change when they become adults. Clipped babies are even more dependent (is she clipped?) but even they change when they become sexually mature. Or, it could also be that she is the exception to the rule...

He's 8 months old and clipped, yes. He was clipped when we got him, yes it's a him, we found out today. We don't plan on clipping him from here on in so we shall see what happens.

Ah, well, there you go! You have a clipped juvenile but wait until he is 2 years old and fully flighted and you'll see why they are considered aviary birds.

Parajita.....when you have a second, go to youtube.com and check out a video some guy posted about his rock pebbler. Type in Rock pebbler and you'll see it. Sounds like his bird is flighted and yet a real companion to him as well. While they might be aviary birds, they seem like they're great companions as well. We'll continue to see moving forward but please check out that video if you can. Thanks

rosellas are deemed to be aviary birds as well but we (my ex and i) took in an ex aviary bird and she was ok. She wasn't the tamest bird but she responded a hell of a lot better to a household environment than we thought. She was a bit how Harlie (cockatiel) is now- would step up and sometimes sit on your shoulder but usually preferred to sit on the sofa right behind your shoulder than actually on you. She would lean her head down for kisses and the odd head scratch on her own terms.
