Thats the funny thing about her. If I open the cage and sit she will just sit there looking at me. If I put my hand in she will climb on and come out and sit on shoulder. If I open the cage and leave the room she will come out on her own and when I come back she will come to the front of the cage for me to get her and she will get on my finger and go to my shoulder but she won't let me touch her

My Senegal loves me and will do her best to protect me but she doesn't like being touched very much and even then it is only on the beak, head and neck areas that she likes. She also refuses to stay off of my shoulder even when my Grey chases her away. She flies away and either just turns right back or comes back in a minute or two.

They have great characters. I had one before and he was almost the same. But he would come to you and fly back to his cage when he was bored of you. This one just wants to sit on your shoulders. She will let me touch her beak but that's it. Normally she would want me to do her neck or head but not at the mo. Have had may senegals?

I've had three females and one male and I have one of each right now (Zoey and Sweetpea) and they were/are all different. One of the females, Cowboy, did not like to be touched at all - she wasn't aggressive at all but she was not 'into' people. Tobita was the most affectionate bird I've ever had with the possible exception of Freddie (a cockatoo), I could do ANYTHING with her. Same with Zoey, I can touch and manipulate her entire body and she has never, ever, ever bit or even nipped me. Sweetpea is another story because he had lived almost all his eleven years in a small square cage, not ever coming out for many, many years (if ever) prior coming to me so he hated all humanity with a passion - but me even more because he fell in love with Tobita who adored me (but he no longer attacks me, steps up, rides my shoulder and allows me to scratch his head, neck and cheeks).

Let her come out and then ask her to step up and, if she just wants to ride your shoulder, let her. Soon she will be allowing you to scratch her head and even asking you for it

Wow you have had a few. I'd love a cockatoo but got no room. Have you given your senegal kidney beans? Lucky is very picky with food and I keep trying different things. She loves carrots

I think that I would try to avoid the kidney beans and stick with either Navy beans or Great Northern as the darker beans have more bad stuff in them.

Try the "tickle tickle" method. Say it and wiggle one finger from a distance. She will hear the words and see you coming. She will learn that only one finger is coming at her. Start with tickle tickle feet and beak then move to neck when she is ready. Myrtle is even learning her body parts.

Wolf is correct. Kidney beans are the highest in the bad lectin, so much so that the common name for it is 'kidney bean toxin'.

Thanks I will keep that in mind. My first senegal wasn't picky with food so it was much easier with him but lucky is hard work. I won't bother with kidney beans. And like I will try that and see what she does, she is starting to stay with me more and I can get abit closer but I have just let her sit on my shoulder and not really touched her but every now and then I will wistle and talk to her

But it's not a matter of feeding them just beans, either, you know. You need to give her whole grains and veggies, too -as well as fruits, of course.
