Woodstock Budgie

Postby Pajarita » Sun Feb 08, 2015 2:23 pm

I was contacted two weeks ago by a couple who had found a budgie in a park. The poor thing was so dehydrated that he had fallen to the ground and just laid there with his head down and not moving to the point that they thought he was dead when first spotted. They tried to find his owners but nobody had reported him lost and nobody replied to their postings of Found so they kept him for 6 months. But they felt he was not getting the care he needed (young couple starting out, both working long days, etc) and that he was lonely so he came to me. He is still in quarantine (arrived a week ago this past Thursday) and he is already eating gloop and getting stronger (they had him on just budgie seed and water and was terribly vitamin/mineral deficient, the poor thing) from the daily dosages of a multivitamin/mineral supplement I am putting in his water. He is also becoming calmer as he seemed to be terribly stressed out.

They gave him the name Woodstock because he is yellow, just like Snoopy's friend (well, actually, he has a very small, very pale lime spot on his lower abdomen) and he is a tiny little thing, smaller than normal budgies with the tiniest feet (must be from inbreeding to get the all yellow coloration he has). I promised Matt and Carolina (the couple who found him) that I would send pictures of him when he joins his new flock and, when this happens, I will post one here so you can see him.

Wonderful. You must be known as bird lady. I wonder how word gets around.

In high school a teacher found me and asked if I would help his turtle (baby red ear). It was winter and he was trying to hibernate. How did that teacher know to find me? I took his turtle for two weeks to get him up and running again.

Oh, people somehow know. Some ago, we were coming back from running an errand and found a package on the stoop and somebody had written "FOOD FOR THE BIRDS" on it. It had more than 3/4 of a large baking pan of corn bread and an unopened box with a recently expired date of organic granola cereal. Three days later, we are again parking the car in the driveway and this older lady walking a little dog across the street asks us if we had found the package she had left - she lived THREE blocks away and knew I feed the street birds every morning and that I had birds in the house! And I had never seen her in my entire life!
