I like pretty much all parrot species. I have no desire to own one of the huge ones like a macaw or cockatoo, but I'm sure they can be very nice birds. I plan on getting an African Grey at some point in the future but anything larger than that just doesn't appeal to me.

Actually, now that I think about it, I don't really care for cockatiels. Based on my experiences with them they just don't seem as intelligent or interesting as other parrot species.

Well, I put conures because that's what Scooter is and he's the best parrot on the planet. Not that I'm biased. And while we are at it, why isn't there a GCC Smilie, eh? ;)

I love the beauty of the macaws, I'd really like to get one one day.

Amazons are definitely my favorite. They may be a lot of bird with a lot of attitude, but they have so much spirit and personality. They are excitable and can be fiercely loyal. They may be loud and can be quite aggressive and hot tempered but I couldn't live without one. Maybe it's because they're so much like me, we know how to get along because we understand eachother ;) :amazon:

My favorite type of parrot is the parrotlet. They are such spunky little guys! They have such pizazz packed into their tiny little bodies. I love having a bird who has the big bird personality, but no scary beak. lol! Jack is great in that he's independent, but always eager for cuddling and scritches from mommy :D

I also love conures. They are playful and goofy, with a love everyone personality. My Kiwi is my constant shoulder buddy. She's much more needy then my parrotlet, but not to the extent of being cockatoo needy. There are some days she wants to be left alone and spends all day playing on her playstand. Then the next day she is attached to me and wants to be with me always. lol!

I have an attraction to amazons, but from what I have observed they aren't really a hands on bird, and prone to hormonal issues. I dont think I could handle it

I'm biased I guess. I love Budgerigars, but that is probably the only kind of parakeet that I love.

They are small.
They are inexpensive (to purchase but also to own than other parrots).
They are widely available.
They are generally quiet (maybe louder than other ones but still suitable for an apartment or quiet lifestyle).
They are very easy to train.
They don't bite hard (I'm not scared of that bite at all).
They aren't capable of doing a lot of damage.
Their poop is really small and dry and doesn't make a huge mess.
They come in many color varieties and mutations (And in most cases, they don't need to be DNA sexed to know the gender).
Their cage can be smaller so it's less surface area to clean.
They can learn the most words.

I chose other

my favourite parrots are both the nearly extinct flightless night parrot the Kākāpō and the Alpine Parrot the Kea

Kākāpō

Kea

while i will never have a Kākāpō in our home I have had the chance to meet one in person and am on a shortlist to travel down south during breeding season and work as a volunteer with them for a period of 6 weeks.

my husbands uncle has a kea and they are the most amazing birds. They are rough and are known to pull cars apart inthe wild and to kill sheep and personally I do not condone them being bred anywhere but NZ or genrally kept in captivity. Hubby's Uncles one lives outside cageless as was a rescue/ rehab and release many many years ago.

as for birds that I am likely to personally own I am a huge fan of the too's and australian grass parakeets ( such as batman ) because of the challenges they create in the day to day life of being owned by a fid.

I am also 100% in love with the Poi's out there and cant wait to get my own sennie at the end of this year.

I really like all parrots species, but i'm set on a Conure as my third bird though, another lorikeet next XD

Lorikeets win though, I love their different personalities and hyperness.

He will be mine:

I am a total Lovebird addict! I love all of the subspecies, but I have a special place for Eyerings.

Although they are very often very loud, messy, stubborn biters with a razor sharp beak. They are also some of the sweetest, most playful and amazing to experience birds you could hope to meet.
I think it's the attitude and the large personality, all wrapped up in a small package that really appeals to me. They truly have all the personality of a macaw, and often I feel that people overlook them, because of their small size.
