Bulding Trust with my Lory

Postby Gabriel » Tue Mar 17, 2015 2:51 am

I have recently posted a thread with a few queries about how I should care for my Rainbow lorikeet for the first few days after I pick it up from the store. It is hand raised, and is due to hatch sometime this weekend.

I was wondering how I could get my lorikeet to trust me, and what I should do with the bird for the first few days? I have also been told by Wolf that I should ask for the weaning formula from the breeder, so it would be excellent if anyone could share some more information on this topic.

Since this bird requires a special diet try to get some of the same nectar that the breeder uses for his birds as well, it will save you problems right from the start. For the first month or so study your bird to learn its body language. Spend as much time with the bird as possible talking and singing with it. offer it the occasional treat while you are doing this. I have explained all of this already as it is the best way to earn the birds trust, this works for any species of parrot as it allows the bird to set the pace and let you know when to go to the next level of interaction.
