New Budgies

Postby Gabriel » Sun Mar 22, 2015 6:02 am

We've recently adopted a pair of beautiful male budgies. We've had them for less than two days, but they seem to be settling in quite well. I've sat by the cage for a few hours a day while I was on my laptop/iPad, and put my hand on the cage for a few minutes day while playing a recording of budgie sounds. They are fine with my presence, and are not moving away too much when I place my hand on the cage. They get quite scared if I place my hand in the cage, so I'll keep my hand out until they aren't too scared of it anymore. Final thing - should I clip their wings, or keep them fully flighted?

I would never clip a birds wings unless there were a valid medical reason to do so. Flight is just too intertwined with all of the birds systems do limit this ability. It affects every aspect of their lives from problem solving to physical health.

Oh, it was real nice of you and your sister not to buy the ones from the breeder and adopt instead. Kudos to you for that! How old are they and what is their story?
