Postby simon_bird_77 » Sat May 09, 2015 9:33 pm

Hello. I recently purchased a pair of turquoise parrots. The male is a red fronted yellow opaline and the female is a red fronted opaline. I am wondering what color the young will be.... is it a case of all young males will be same as the father and females will be same as mother?? Or a mix.... sorry im new to mutations and i dont quite get it.... thanks for any help!! :danicing:

I really don't know either, some of the color mutations are sex linked and some are not. I am not advanced enough in avian genetics to know how to predict what colors are which.
The primary reason for my reply to this was to welcome you to the forum as I did not recognize the name. So welcome to the forum.

Congratulations on your pair of Turquoise parrots. I am rather curious as to why you want to breed parrots. I don't know how much experience you have with parrots especially in this area of parrot husbandry, but it is not a thing that can be learned from books, it takes a certain degree of hands on experience to not end up with dead birds. So I was hoping that you would tell me something about your parrot experience as well as why you want to breed them.

Ive had over 20 years experience breeding parrots but im just confused as to what this pairing will result in having never bred opalines and never a yellow crossed with a normal. Hope someone smarter than me can explain. Cheers
