Rajah is a wonderful name for him, Wolf, as he IS an incredibly beautiful bird which looks as if he was dressed in silk robes of different colors! Breeders usually keep the best mutations for themselves to be used as breeders so they can produce more of them (they can sell the babies for more) and I am sure this was the case here because his colors are so vivid and striking. It was a stroke of luck that I had put the word out a few weeks before this guy decided to stop breeding them and brought all his stock to Pete (who knows me and called me as soon as he got them -I went the next day and had my pick of all of them).

They will work out just fine because he knows EXACTLY what to say and do to woo her (that's why I wanted an ex-breeder for her). Geez, it's as if I (old lady) was put in a house with Brad Pitt! I can assure you I would not play hard to get for long

PS my husband took a picture of me and Wolf and I will post it as soon as he sends it to me so you can see what we look like (he left at 5:30am this morning for work and had to work until 1am last night preparing the games -we didn't get back until 6:30 pm so I didn't even mention it to him).

We got home at about the same time, as I arrived at about 6:15 pm. He is talking up a storm to her right now and she answer every so often.

Well it has only been a couple of days since Rajah's arrival and he is eating well and is very focused on winning Paquitas heart. Their cages are only separated by about an inch between the bars of the cages, just enough that they can't touch each other.
Rajahs movements about his cage mirror Paquita's movements in her cage. If Paquita moves towards the top of her cage Rajah is only a fraction of a second behind her as he moves to remain at the same level in his cage as she is in hers. If his back is turned towards her due to him watching other things such as people movement she will come closer to him and starts talking to him until he turns around, then she stops and moves away a shots distance while he talks and talks to her.
Paquita love to come out of her cage in the mornings to socialize with me and to get a little almond. She lands on me and moves down to my hand and chitters away very excitedly and then she gets her almond after she calms down, then comes playing with a little ball and some head scratches which she seems to enjoy immensely, turning her head so that her whole head is scratches especially along her lower jaw bones. Then it is off to her cage so that I can repeat this with another bird. On the way back, we stop at Rajah's cage and she lunges at him with beak open to bite and he just rushes over, ignoring me to talk to her. Today I held her up close enough for her to reach the bars of Rajah's cage. She, of course, lunges at him threatening to bite him and he just ducks to one side or the other so that she couldn't bite him if she really wanted to. He ducks and bobs from one side to the other and talks and talks, never once showing any aggressiveness whatsoever. He is very sweet and patient with her. As soon as she is in her cage and the door is closed, she goes over to the side of her cage that is closest to him and they continue to talk for a couple of minutes.
There has been one very interesting side effect to all of this. Since Rajah has been here Kookooloo, my Grey has been in a snit and is acting very angry with me. She asks to have her cage opened so that she can come out and then pulls the door closed and refuses to come out until I go get her reluctantly out of her cage. Now Kiki, my Senegal, almost always flies over to me while Kookooloo is out and on me and all is good with both of them getting a little almond and juice, and head scratches. But since Rajah's arrival she, Kookooloo, will not tolerate Kiki any where near me while she is out with me and goes after her with a vengeance to chase her away.
It is so interesting to see how the simple act of adding one bird to the flock can change the dynamics of the flock even when there is very little change in the rest of the routine.

Well after spending two days with Kookooloo, being mad and not trusting me she seems to have gotten over being mad at me. She is still overreacting to Kiki. We will see how she acts tomorrow.

I just caught up on this thread, so excited to hear that Paquita has a friend! I had been thinking about her occasionally and wondering how she was doing in that regard. After both of your descriptions, I'm looking forward to seeing the picture of Rajah- wonderful name, by the way :)

And that IS a perfectly fantastical stroke of luck, Parjarita. Both for you, and the bird, who landed a pretty good deal, I think.

And I hope Kookoolo comes around soon (sorry if I spelled it wrong, on my phone so can't check easily). I don't think Fajr snubbed me after meeting the new ones, but I don't give them attention when he's around.

It is really funny as Kookooloo was the second bird to come here to live and she has never reacted this way before. It is even more surprising in that I have done nothing with Rajah except to feed and water him and talk to him a little bit, letting Paquita and Rajah have most of the time to work their stuff out. This is because being a retired breeder, he is afraid of humans. Right now, I could not reach him if I tried, he needs time to see how everyone else is treated. Their trust in me will do more to help me gain his trust than anything that I could do at this time.

He is VERY flighty! It took all the time he spent here for him not to freak out every time I walked close to his cage and he continued doing it whenever I put my hand in his cage (which I tried to limit to the minimum). But it's normal with breeder birds...

Rajah and Paquita have been next to each other since 7 pm on the 4th, today, the 8th at 4 pm I opened a feeder door on both cages and placed them where they could come and go from one cage to the other. Paquita and Rajah met at the doors where Rajah fed Paquita for a while and then they both backed off into their own cages. They are currently in their own cages but I have left the feeder doors open for them. Everything seems to be going great with them.
Just because I mentioned how Kookooloo was acting for the past couple of days, she is back to her normal lovey state with me and has quit going after Kiki aggressively like she did for a couple of days.

Rajah went into Paquita's cage and I left them together for about an hour and then they started fighting a little bit so I let Paquita out and while she was being comforted on me, I coaxed Rajah back into his own cage. They are now in their own cages and are hanging out next to each other in their own cages. This was a great start, I think.
