Ran across this picture tonight of an axanthic (lacking yellow pigment) Meyers Parrot. No information, just a picture. Anyone know about it?

Not my strong suit, but just finished looking at close to 400 picture of Meyer's Parrots and have not found any that look like this one. Beautiful colors though.

Breeders of parrots breed for mutations all the time but they are usually not as health as the wild phenotype for a number of years until they can work out the genetic defects they usually end up with from the inbreeding it takes to produce them in the first place.

Yeah same issues in the reptile world (which I'm more familiar with). Recessive genes absolutely require inbreeding to reproduce.

I had found a PDF online that showed the second pic and there was mention of this being a wild mutation with some localities expressing this trait in large numbers. And then an old forum post that the captive one pictured first is in Sweden. Other than that it doesn't seem as if they are in the States or being bred at all.

Sure are beautiful though.

While looking at pictures of Meyer's parrots, I was specifically targeting breeders' mutations to see if they were being bred but could not find any pictures or even a hint of this color mutation.

Google "blue meyers parrot". The first image in the results should be the one I posted first.

Here is the link to the PDF file where I found the second pic. Scroll to page 11. They also mention a pie Meyers.
