Bar spacing for a Conure Green Cheek

Postby GCC-Lover » Sun Jun 14, 2015 3:50 pm

Hi all,

I have a conure green cheek parrot and a very small (cheap) cage for him with a bar spacing of 1/2, I had before a much bigger cage but with a bar spacing of 3/4 and I had some issues with it, very often he got stuck his head through the bars, so I had to sold it, but I found a nice much bigger cage but with a bar spacing of 5/8 (I was told that it is 15mm, but that is actually about 5/8 inch), so what do you think, is that bar spacing safe enough to put a GCC ? Please help me, I might buy it tomorrow so I don't want to waste my moneys, thank you!

Welcome to the forum. 5/8 and 1/2 are very close. What is the size and shape of the larger cage you are considering? Will he be in it most of the time or free house flight? Will it be his night cage or daytime too?

Thank you for the fast answer, let me tell you the dimensions of my current cage: 40cm wide, 28cm deep and 58cm high (i already know it is pretty small), the one that I'm considering to buy has the following dimensions: 62cm wide, 40cm deep and 72cm high. The cage will be using for both daytime and nighttime, here where I live we don't have much of choices, the biggest cage on the market is this which im going to buy it, but as I said it has 5/8 inch of bar spacing

I take it that you can't order a cage online? I ask because the larger cage is also a bit on the small size, in my opinion. But as far as bar spacing goes 1/2 in. is 4/8 in. and 3/4 in. is 6/8 in so 5/8 in is the only size between 1/2 in. and 3/4 in.

If for some reason you cannot get a larger cage you can connect cages and keep his food in the small one. It looks strange but it works. If you are not getting a larger cage because of bar spacing, you can wrap nylon net around the cage until he learns that the door is the way out and not the bars.
