Jardine's... Where are you?!

Postby flappybird » Fri Aug 21, 2015 10:25 pm

Hey all,

I want to start off by saying I'm not trying to get another parrot right this second, in case anyone that read my first post thread decides that I'm a terrible person for wanting another parrot after I've only had Luna a week. Not the case!

I do know that I'm going to want another, eventually. After a lot of research (before I got Luna) and idly reading about parrots constantly, I'm reaching out to see if anyone has any resources to find any Jardine's parrots. This is the species I was looking for initially, and they seem super impossible to find. Adults, babies, or otherwise (it would be awesome to find one between 2-4 years old). I'm still very very very interested in them. I've never met one, but from what I read they sound like everything I was looking for in a parrot. This of course, varies with the individual, I know.

Anyways, this is idle research. If anyone knows anything, let me know. I hope to find the right one someday.

By the way, I live in Florida, and I've contacted Jean Pattison before. Actually, my mother did because they live in the same city and she does things like that on a whim. She has some Grey's at the moment, but I don't know how frequently she tries to breed Jardine's.

Well, there are three species of Jardines... I have a lesser one, a female. Her name is Baby Bird but she pronounces it more like Babyboyd  And she was particularly happy and affectionate this morning because she got apples (she calls all the fruits 'apple' and asks for them with a 'You want apple?") which she loves!

She sounds incredibly adorable. Where did you get her from?

Oh yeah, I've been obsessively checking the rescue sites I've found for the past 2-3 months. There was one Jardine that I almost got to meet but someone got to her before I did. Eventually I found Luna just by emailing different people all over florida. I will probably keep checking every now and then forever. Haha

A lady (university professor in Manhattan) I met in a canary workshop I used to give at a bird club and later followed me on a website I used to have to give advice on birds gave her to me because her daughter had moved back in with her and BabyBird hated her with a passion and attacked her constantly. But she is the sweetest thing, actually. I've had her for 8 or 9 years now and she is one of the few birds that has never, ever, ever even attempted to bite me.
