Obviously so. I wasn't saying it as an excuse to give them less attention. They're still flock animals. What I meant was, at least what I've heard, poicephalus tend to be better at entertaining themselves so that trait would help them cope better while people aren't around. Please correct me if I'm wrong, and I know each individual parrot is different.

You really don't want one of these if they are not happy as they will eat you up.

Note taken. For the parrot's sake, it sounds like having two GCCs would be the best option.

As a general rule it is also my understanding that they seem to be better at entertaining themselves than many of the other species of parrots as well. But, they are also highly individualistic and that is not something that you can count on, I do know that you can bank on the fact that if they are unhappy that they are going to let you know about it in a rather unpleasant manner, biting, and they bite hard.

Yeah, I have many permanent scars on my arm reminding me of that. At this point, I'm just gathering info, so any comments are appreciated.

I'll be honest with you, I don't believe that pois are better at been by themselves. I think that pois usually don't complain as much as other species but not that they suffer less. The reason why I feel this way is that, going by my own experience and for what I've read about other people's pois and their relationship with them, they appear to imprint very deeply to people - so much so that they are considered one-person birds and, sometimes, it's real hard to get them to accept a mate even when it's the same species and age, and of the opposite gender because all they want is their human. Now, if you ask me, no bird that is THAT much in love with its human can be considered 'independent' enough to be OK hours and hours on its own.

Please note that I said they seem to be better at entertaining themselves and not that they are better at being alone. I know that many think that this means the same thing but it does not. I have experience with only one poi and that is Kiki and she is pretty good at entertaining herself but she is still on me almost as much as she can be. Sometimes Kookooloo, my Grey will not allow her to be on me, but she is never alone.

I see. A mated pair of GCC would probably best for me.

Yes, I know and I understood it exactly as you meant it but I thought to clarify because, as you say, most people equate 'entertaining themselves' with 'independent enough to spend hours on their own without a problem' and it is, most definitely, NOT the same thing.

I have had parrots + asthma for many years budgies and teils would be fine if u don't keep them in your room, I've had budgies , teils , GCC, and lorikeets out of all of them I like my lorikeets the best caus of the funny behaviours and fearlessness and that have very little dust but I wouldn't recommend lorikeets for a starter because of there expensive food and they are very messy birds overall.

Pois are pretty independant. Even though mine are with me almost all day, if I do go out, and not take them, they are excited to see me back but they have played while I was gone. If you are working you need to spend at least two long periods of lots of attention with them each day for them to be happy. I love parrots but my favorite are Pois.
