Yes, it is sad that people do such terrible things to the poor things. Thankfully, we have learned a lot and, with the internet, we are able to share what we have learned so lots of people are becoming more choosy as to whom they buy from, pushing the breeders into better techniques (co-parenting, abundance weaning, etc) by sheer competition (not that I approve of breeding parrots to be used as human pets regardless of how good the breeder might be!). So, although on the one hand, the species are becoming more and more defective as the generations pile up, on the other, the babies produced do have better treatment than years ago -sheesh, they even used to sell incubator birds, that's how bad it was!
