Perhaps this will help. It is a link to a recording of the Maroon bellied conure, if it works.

The guy who spoke to me about the maroon belly hasn't replied to any of my messages for days :(

However I'm now in touch with someone who volunteers for a rescue. They have a maroon belly there too. All the rescues I've found here want you to pay membership before they will even let you apply for adoption and most it's a long term fostering situation rather than adoption. I am hopeful this means that I can get a good idea on whether it will be worth applying for membership. Fingers crossed.

If by 'long term fostering situation' is because of a contract you need to sign stating that the animal will always belong to the rescue, that is standard here in the States so I would not worry too much about it. It's done to give the rescue the right to take the animal away from the adopter in case it's not been treated right or to prevent people adopting just to resell the animal but you would have nothing to worry about.

If I may give you an advice? Next time you see a bird posted for rehoming, do not wait a single second, answer the ad right away (you need to jump on these things) and make it a real nice reply. I once put an ad for birds on Craigslist and got replies like: "Where are these birds?" "Give me the address so I can go pick them up" -needless to say, I did not even answer them!

Thanks. I am already doing that and Checking several ad sites at least once per day but usually 2-3 times. :)

You are right, that is how it would work with UK. rescues too. They own the bird, I would care for it if approved.

The only thing I don't like is should anything happen to me then the bird would have to go back to rescue. I have 4 plans in place already in the event I am unable to care for the pets I already have- just in case the 1st one falls through so it means I would have to change my plans for Ollie. As it stands at the Moment all my pets would all be living together if My partner and I both died or got severely ill but that would have to change if we got a rescue. They would have to guarantee that Ollie and potential new bird would stay together if they get on as well as I hope. The person who is safe housing the maroon is calling me tonight anyway.

In other news we are going to see a pineapple green cheek on Saturday, she sounds a perfect match for our family. Her owners can no longer care for her as she's fallen severely ill.

**update** we have a home check on Sunday from the rescue.

Today's the day we meet the pineapple GCC. I am excited and nervous- about 7 hours to go. I have a good feeling about this girl and her owners sound really genuine so fingers crossed.

In other news the rescue volunteer has to reschedule our home check to next weekend. In a way I am pleased because if we bring the pineapple home then I don't have to let them down at the last minute. I already wish I could have them both though.......

Great news! Things are moving along real well and if one doesn't pan out, you will always have the other one. But, if I were you, I would not consider having three of them. These birds are very needy and, eventually, there will be a problem.
