Friend for a mynah?

Postby JaydeParrot » Wed Dec 09, 2015 6:17 pm

Basically I have a mynah that no one else wanted, I feel sad for it cuz the sennies aren't too fond and the poor mynah doesn't have a birdie companion, I'd been thinking about getting him a diamond dove as a friend (cage companion) since the one mynah's songs are quite loud and two mynah might get me angry letters from my neighbours, I figure both bird would be similar size, have similar lifespan and also the dove wouldn't add to the noise, I realise the two birds probably have slightly different diets but I just want the mynah to have a friend.

Anyone know the pros and cons of putting a diamond dove with a mynah or know of a different quiet bird which would fit in with a common mynah.

Diamond doves are tiny. I'm sure mynah birds are much larger. Can't be much help other than that though.

Google told me so not sure on accuracy as we never weighed our diamond doves their weight should be about 45g. Mynah birds are 120-140g.

Mynahs are usually fairly aggressive bird so I would be concerned about a doves safety if in the same cage with a mynah bird.

You can't house a mynah and a dove together and they would not bond so, although your intentions are very good, the solution is not viable. Doesn't he like you? Or is it that you don't have enough time for it?

Fair enough, glad I knew that before getting a diamond dove.

I'm still working on taming the mynah he's not too fond on humans, it's not that I don't have time for him it's just that I can't be there for the mynah 'all' the time and when I see the two sennies together I feel sad that the mynah doesn't have a fellow soft bill for a constant companion.
